I Can't Stop Blushing...

Summer is here, even if it is a little bi-polar. This usually means one thing for me, pure obsession with blush...

I want it all, I want the perfect, luminous, perky, peachy, glimmering, oh my gosh where did you get that blush. If such a thing exsists, let me know. For now I'll just fill you in on my most favourite blush products of the moment.

Style: This has to be my most worn blusher, I use it in conjunction with a brighter colour on the apples of my cheeks and run this along my cheekbone, everybody should own this!

Rude: A recent purchase, but It's so pretty. I apply it with a 130 brush and usually run a highlighter over it to just brighten it up, it's lovely to wear in the daytime if you want a more natural look too.

Tippy: The ultimate hot pink blush, a little goes a lonnng way. I've had this for over a year, and you can hardly tell i've used it. I use this so much!! Paired with Style, this is my absolute favourite combination.

2True Tint: Neon in the bottle, but give it a chance and you'll fall in love.

Springsheen: This is just the perfect blush if you want to look "done" in a hurry. It's got a gorgeous golden reflect to it and strikes the balance between pink and peach perfectly. Very similar to NARS orgasm.

I was having problems photographing the true colours of the blushes in a swatch, but here we are!

l-r 2True Tint, Rude, Style, Tippy, Springsheen.

They're all much more vibrant in person, my camera just has a tendancy to wash things out!

What are your favourite blush products?

My Summer Scent

I'm have a rediculous weakness for perfume, so when I got this for my birthday I was very pleased, you can never have enough perfume!

It's a lovely fresh scent, perfect for summer. It's a light floral, fruity scent and I've worn it constantly, It's lovely for day time and those long summer evenings.

Not to mention the packaging is amazing!!

Products Up Close: MAC 130 Brush

After lots of umm-ing and ahh-ing I finally got my hands on this beauty when MAC re-released it with the To the Beach collection.

I do have a thing about the duo-fibre brushes, and I'm not going to pretend it isn't partly due to the fact they're so damn pretty in my brush holder. Terrible I know!

When this was delivered I can't say I was instantly bowled over, I'd imagined the surface area of the brush was bigger than it was, and it just looked a bit, well, teeny.

I decided to give it a go anyway and I'm happy to report, this is a little gem of a brush!

When used with foundation, the result is flawless. This suprised me as I thought it was far too small the be able to be used for this, I'm supremely lazy with foundation application...but it's lovely. I just stipple my foundation (currently NARS sheer glow) all over my face and then buff to my hearts content.

My favourite way to use this brush is with cream blush though, it just gives the most beautiful, natural effect.
It makes even the most vivid of blush blend out into an amazing soft finish.

After a shaky start with my latest addition it's becoming a firm favourite.

Get Golden For Summer!

Despite the constant protest from the gloomy British weather, summer is slowly creeping up on us!

I've been a bit of a pale pauline throughout the winter monthes. A combination of Scottish genes, a lack of any sunshine and a lazy attitude towards all things tanning have left me with a complexion rivaling a Cullen. Is "blue pale" skin colour?!

In order to remedy this and bring me back to life, I've embarked on a mission to inject some "tanshine" back into my life.

Numero Uno.

Xen-Tan Transform Gradual Self Tanner & Sunless Tan Face Tanner.

We'll get this out of the way...yes I was sent these products, BUT I've given them the mother of all testings before I even wanted to touch on them on here!!

I've had some horrendous experiences with gradual tanners, I'm talking to you Johnsons Holiday Skin...It stills makes my old university housemates laugh now...

I was dubious about subjecting myself to another trial but I'm rather glad I did, It smells delicious like vanilla almond cakes, unlike any false tanner I've ever used before. I will admit you do transition from cakes to the slight smell of biscuits after a few hours, but it isn't even close to the full on eau de tan smell that's ever so pleasant...blurgh.

As it's a gradual tanner I wasn't expecting miracles, but it applied easily (I just slapped it on with my hands and fully rubbed it in) and I was done, just a white cream that you can see blending in so it gives you a rough idea of where you've put it. No serious trauma there! I did however begin to lose hope when nothing seemed to be happening after a few hours, not a hint of the bronzed goddess I desired...boo.

BUT...I woke up in the morning looking like a california beach babe! Hello Xen-Tan!!

As I obviously lack forward planning I didn't have a "before" shot so as my Sister is the same skin colour as me I roped her in to lend an arm.

Before & After.

It really is the most natural tan I think I've ever achieved from a bottle, It lands right in the middle of the olive/golden skin tone without being obnoxiously satsuma.

Very Happy!!

I'm not going to say I didn't have ANY streaking because that wouldn't be true, I had ONE streak...not bad at all, I only found it after a rigorous inspection so who else would notice!

My face is a similar hue of golden brown, but I'm looking far from photogenic today so I promise to show you in a FOTD tomorrow...In short, no satsuma face, no obvious pore clogging and it's kept my dry skin moisturised, thumbs up! I'm usually terrified of face tanners so testing this was a real task. I will happily purchase this and the body tanner over and over, I'm already addicted.

Gradual Transform is £14.95
Face Tanner is £15.95

Numero Dos

I haven't let these two babies out of my sight for about two weeks now.

E.L.F Warm Bronzer & MAC Gold Deposit MSF.

Both of these get brutally ignored throughout winter but they never leave my dressing table during the summer monthes, I'm not scared of a bit of shimmer so I sweep Gold Deposit over my cheek bones for a beautiful bronze glow. The E.L.F Bronzer is such a versatile little thing, the darker shades are lovely contours in summer, they're usually too dark for me, and swirled on a big fluffy brush it looks lovely just placed on your temples, cheekbones and collarbone.

Numero Tries

If you are in a real pinch something like this is always a good plan. I love these if I'm going out and feel my legs or arms are looking a bit pale, it's confidence in a bottle! The shimmer isn't too over the top and if you go wrong it just washes off, perfect for beginners.

I'm not sure how much I paid for these but they are in the £5-£10 region, you can grab these at Boots & the Rimmel one at most usual High Street shops.

If you made it to here, well done haha, mega post!!

Are you getting bronzed for summer? Or are you embracing your pale side??

NOTD: Prism/Lincoln Park After Dark

I got talking to the MA on the Illamasqua counter and we were talking about how gorgeous Prism nail varnish is. She mentioned that Alex Box loves to wear it with a dark french tip, so I thought i'd give it a go!

I used OPI Lincoln Park After Dark as it picks up the purple reflects in the polish.

It's safe to say I love this, It's the perfect way to wear darker colours this spring/summer and it's really easy to do!!

A Bit Of A Spree...

After a rather disappointing shopping session on my birthday, I put it a few orders...

From NARS I ordered:
Barbarella Lipstick
Palette Douceurs de Paris
Body Glow II (x2??)
Thanks to Nicola (Nicolavc86) who told me about a code to get a free body oil, I got sent not one but two of these, so I'm not sure whats going on, but I'm not complaining!!

I tried to get my hands on Barbarella when I went to the NARS counter, but they didn't have it, It's such an amazing summer colour, and the moisture is this lipstick is intense!
I've wanted this palette for the LONGEST time, but I've always decided against it. My birthday gave me the perfect excuse to spoil myself and I can safely say this is the perfect travel palette for me.

I also had a brief sweep of the MAC website, intending to buy just one thing I got roped into the whole free delivery again...

I bought:

Viva Glam Cyndi
130 Brush
Marine Life Highlighting Powder

I got drawn into how pretty this powder is, even though it's only a gold overlay, the colour underneath is so pretty so it wasn't a total crazy purchase!!

I'm firmly back onto careful purchase mode now, I'm still trying to use up products!!

I'll get a closer look at these products up once I've used them a bit more.

Summer Plaits

My sister came and asked me for a fresh summer look for a party she was off to, and I'm a sucker for anything hair & make up...

I'm addicted to messy plaits at the moment, and my sisters hair is a joy to work with as it's long and gorgeous and all one length so there's no tricky layers to wrestle with!
I took a large section from the front and french plaited it around the hairline and brought it down in a thick plait. I then took the rest Hannah's hair and incorporated it into a long side plait. I secured it with an elastic band and took a small section of hair and wrapped it around the band to cover it.
I then wacked on the hairspray and that was that!! If you want to try this don't be too worried about getting it perfect, the messier it looks the better!!

For make up, she wanted a fresh, summer look without too much going on.

I focused on creating a fresh dewy complexion with a summery bronzed finish.

I used:

NARS Sheer Glow in Mont Blanc
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Warm Ivory
Illamasqua Cream Blush in Rude
MAC Tippy/Style Blush
ELF Warm Bronzer

I did a very simple eye,

MAC Cork e/s lightly through the brows
MAC Rubenesque Paint Pot
MAC Orb e/s
MAC Twinks in the outer corner (only a tiny amount to define the eye!!)
Maybelline Lash Stilletto

I didn't go too crazy on the lashes and the camera didn't pick them up!!

Lips:

So simple but gorgeous, Barbarella Lipstick by NARS. The perfect balmy peach for summer!!

She will probably kill me for this wonderful shot, but you can really see the front of the hair!! I didn't plan to put this on here so I only have these three shots, sorry Hannah!

What summer trends are you wearing at the moment, let me know!!

NOTD: Illamasqua Jan

How can you not adore this soft lilac pink?!

(hello awful dry cuticles!)

If like me you were horrified to learn that Mulberry Pink by Barry M has been given the chop, this is an EXACT dupe to it...if you're prepared to pay £13...

BUT it's opaque in one coat and dries in a flash, I'm quickly falling in love with Illamasqua polishes, this can't be good for my bank balance!!

Birthday Shopping

Bank Holiday Monday = Shopping, Shopping, Shopping!!!

BUT

I only came away with a meagre haul...

NARS didn't have ANYTHING I wanted, but the lovely girl on the counter gave me a sample of the make up primer I've been wanting to try, does anybody else find that NARS counter staff are nicer than your average?? We had a nice chat about different bits and bobs and she didn't try to push any alternatives on me when what I wanted wasn't in, thumbs up!

Nothing at MAC really excited me this time, I wanted to get my hands on Viva Glam Cyndi but the counter didn't have it.

I did however pick up Creme Cup

It comes across as a lot more pink on this picture, this has just beat out Shy Girl as my favourite day lipstick!

I was wandering through Selfridges make up department when I was confronted with an exciting sight, an Illamasqua Counter! I had no idea that one had opened as it's quite out of the way and in a bad position.
The lovely MA said it had been open since October, how did I miss this!

I picked up Rude Cream Blush & Jan Nail Polish, they're both gorgeous!

(l-r Rude, Creme Cup)

Rude looks like an extreme peach when you swatch it, but dabbed on the apples of your cheeks it just brightens your face up without looking too over the top.
Jan is a gorgeous pink with lilac undertones, NOTD to come!

I didn't pick up any exciting clothes, nothing was cutting the mustard! I bought some very exciting basics from good H&M but do you really want to see three white vest tops, a grey jersey dress and a grey jersey skirt...

I did however grab this on my way to the till,

Isn't it a beauty?? It was £6.99 and just perks up any simple outfit.

I've put in my NARS order and I'm currently trawling ASOS before I head back to work tomorrow... four days isn't enough!!

Did you have a nice bank holiday?
